From cradle to saddle

       FROM CRADLE TO SADDLE

[A CHILDREN’S DAY SPECIAL]

Waited, indeed waited so long in isolated darkness,                                        Circling round and round for an early possible exit,                                          Alas! amongst a loud shrill of cry and in all fairness,                                        Finally I did make an entry in this wonderful transit.

Excited, yet still blind, the wait continued to prevail,                                      Astonishingly, the light was at the end of the tunnel,                                        Fondling, caring, my roller coaster ride in  smooth sail,                                  My juggernaut, tossed everyone to dance to no avail.

Honeymoon continued, naughty, I was pampered,                                            Jeered at me at times, yet oft yearned my presence,                                        My best period has begun, antics all remembered,                                            Every year on this day, rejoicing with glee and sense.

DOCTOR’S DAY.. JULY 2023

Painful memories and future miseries

Medical schools, all of bricks and concrete, are same,

It’s the pupils bring laurels , glorify with rich tributes,

Many such are famous, its teachers attain immortality,

Hard work enriches the society, nation indeed rejoices.

Men in white coats all in esteem anywhere, everywhere,

Bear the fruits of the true sacrifice and perseverance,

Hard earned prefix oft conceals the boiled egg within,

Ask every student, their aim, a doctor reigns supreme.

Hard way to reach that summit, a steep and tall climb,

Obstacles galore all the way, tests often unrewarding,

Successful feet need a dozen or more peaks to climb,

Every peak has ups and downs, slips not uncommon.

Sleepless nights never count the midnight oils burnt,

Basic knowledge never stops, caravan climb not over,

Practice differs, hours of skills and hard work in wait,

Earning basics possible, yearning a name is arduous.

Trends had changed, rampantly in  Gods own country,

Drug addicts, toothless police, hooligans act their way.

Hospitals in attack, white coated men all, are insecure,

Damocles’ sword over their neck, day in and day out.

Budding doctor stabbed to death, no fault of her own,

Alcohol rules the state, enriching the coffers, its a pity.

Cream of all profession, their screams are yet unheard,

Crocodile tears aplenty, sans a drug for the vandalism.

Health care  needs funds with no returns for the coffer,

All awards decorate the table, will drain the exchequer,

Unbelievable, most families have a medico in the state,

Yet, the charm to become a doctor has vanished of late.

Bearing such incessant insults, these events do recur

Judicial remarks fail to spur the deaf ears, what a pity,

Day is not far, medicos may have two options to think,

Leave the state or be a teacher not to cure any patient.

A ROYAL BIRTH AND AN EARLY DEMISE

AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A 2000 RUPEE NOTE

Every birth in nature, a gift to see the universe and enjoy,
World  welcomes every creature with glee and a blessing,
Inanimate, common to all factory born, so too yours truly,
Royal gestation and a tumultuous delivery, all bemusing.

Older discarded siblings , all despising me with a wry  grin,
Ignorant of their fate, or their sudden and untimely death,
Some razed by the fire, some never saw the world again ,
All the rest in an unknown terrain, yet I wasn’t dejected.

Hailed as a blemish less monarch, Oh I was on cloud nine,
Proud of my frenzied beauty, soon I hated my cousins’ ilk.
All rushing  to caress me, fondling me, every now and then,
Ecstasy  blinding my vision, poor cousins  in a jealous blink.

Rejoicing  an exalted status, despite warnings from within.
My ilk declined in number, handling  becoming a  burden,
Affluent continued to pile me, easier to handle me in bulk;
The poor hated me daily, all preferring my poorer cousins,

My toddler life was rosy, infancy and childhood all thorny ,
A life threatening fall in sight, all my cousins are laughing;
Immortal becomes a mortal, a fatal and a contagious one,
Asylum is the remedy, treatment of isolation in full swing.A

My royal life and status cut short, amidst huge hue and cry
The rich, all awe struck. the poor unmoved, in a silent laugh,
My  cousins over joyous and celebrating my premature exit ,
Underdogs  now the rulers, my stocks now in a  fast tumble

With the rich, all my unseen populace explore a safer room,
Unsure of the  source, the rich  researching  my  exchange,
My days are numbered, so too of my  populace for the doom,
Pride goes before a fall, the proverb still  ringing in my ears,

Comedian  par excellence ..a tribute

Comedy, more often enjoyed  by world all over,
Laughter, the best medicine and an accepted fact,
Minutes of laughter, good dose of endorphins,
In release, brains work better, think better too.

Tinsel world saw many a great comedian till date,
World thrilled by many such artists in abundance
India indeed too had rich repertoire of persona
Down South has a huge collection in store.

Mollywood has a few, down the memory lane,
One such septuagenarian ruled the roost,
His mannerisms, his slang  always an instant hit
Many of his films, overshadowing the heroes too

Rising from the clutches of poverty, fully aware too
Had a meteoric rise, the hidden talents spoke
Volumes of humor, written all over his frame
Films of his, wore a testimony of his prowess

Cornered by the tentacles of cancer, yet he fought,
A testimony to the great fighting spirits within,
Innocent, as his name suggests, bore a smiling face,
Amidst the dying spirit within, bowing to the destiny

A   Beacon of light in a surgeon’s field

[Join  the first letter of this verse, to know about him]

All are equal before the law, so too are the men in white apparel,
Surgeons are exceptional in this gang ,they sweat to save the life,
Under great stress  every time, as  they  reach out for  the scalpel
Right from the day one, till the patient recovers from their  strife .

Gigantic, the ideal word to script this surgeon’s monumental feat,
Every day, for  decades this surgeon nonchalantly, ruled the roost,
On the table, the budding surgeons longed his presence to the hilt
Numero uno, the  great man was never once late to reach for duty,

Parting his  skills with his wards, he never ever shirked from duty,
Advising  anyone in need, forever to impart his surgical acumen,
Renal degree, a  surgical skill under his belt, an added specialty ,
Excellence  his forte, perfection  the  trump card for this yeoman,

Cell death is  nature’s fate, this workaholic  never once backed out,
Eluding the crippling disease , he did carry on  for many a decade,
Loved his profession, ignoring all the alarms for the final way out,
Live on line of late, seeing  needy patients with the cheery façade.

Engrossed in reading always, updating constantly  his knowledge,
Number of awards, many spoke eloquently of his great  prowess,
Celestial call  imminent, unwillingly climbed the destined carriage.
Every young surgeon’s aspiration , here comes this humble tribute,

AN ANGEL OF MUSIC

AN ODE OF TRIBUTE TO THE INDIAN SKYLARK

Music has a charm that melts even the hardest of human emotion,         Oozing the flow that invigorates the audience in rapt attention,               Our Nation, a bliss in Carnatic music, for generations did it instill,             Here is one maestro who captivated the  nation to a  standstill.

An arduous beginning, her ascent to the throne by her sheer skill,             The mellifluous voice reverberated over hills and valleys in full,                  For four scores of years, the nation rejoiced, humming her score.          Won many a laurel, accolades began to crown her in endless pour.

Song stirred the nation after the defeat in war, a  heartrending feel           None can forget the soulful Aye Mere Watan ke or the scenes in reel       Sending the Premier into tears, the whole nation in a pall of gloom           Her voice won praises from the victorious enemy, ironically in zoom.

An iconic remark, ready to sacrifice Kashmir for this singing skylark.       Aptly conferred Bharat Ratna  for her monumental musical task               A Colossus had  many glorious summers, now she calls it a day,               Queen of Music left us for a Heavenly concert, orphaning us this day

 THE APPLE EFFECT

When we change the way we look at things…

the thing we look at change, ….. Wayne Dyer

Apple, the red colored fruit enjoys, the pride of place ever in revelation,                                             Mankind reveals its effect as this fruit of thought is in its revolution,                                                   Its name also carries many facts, mostly known and more unknown,                                                 Golden one unfolds the myths of the Trojan war, the history hath seen.

This Forbidden Apple tempting Adam and Eve, for a momentary façade.                                          The birth of the mankind from this set of the fabled fruit, alive till date,                                              Many a saying in galore to praise the apple, truly in our daily converse,                                            An apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, this compliments the childcare.

Apple a day, keeps the doctor away, Oh! speaks volumes of its goodness,                                            Apple of the eye, this upholds the exalted cynosure of one’s greatness.                                                Apple and Oranges, this compares, weighing the merits of performance,                                            The Tenth apple effect, oft speaks about the saturation and endurance.

The ongoing pandemic, an eye opener to our many unhealthy practices,                                            Untouchability, was a crime enforced before six decades, the law states,                                      Now the distancing even our neighbor, or a meet is too enforced by law,                                            The new born inhaled the first air, as everyone was applauding the show.

Everyone afraid to breathe the same air, fair and unpolluted, now in fear                                  Never covered our faces before, to reveal our expressions, true and fair,                                    Mask, the rule of the day to filter a fresh air safely, an irony or an artifact.                                        This burning fear of the spread and fatality, rules our crippled mindset.
